Chefs Move to Schools and Wellness in the Schools Webinar

This presentation will be an overview of the Wellness in the Schools program and our ten-plus years of making change in cafeterias and schools in NYC and beyond. Chefs Move to Schools chefs and teams will get valuable insights into setting up meaningful programs and interactions with students, teachers, parents and communities.

Wellness in the Schools (WITS) is a national non-profit that partners with schools to inspire healthy eating and physical activity as a way of life. Through meaningful public-private partnerships, we empower schools to provide healthy, scratch-cooked meals, active recess periods, and fitness and nutrition education.

WITS actively engages students and school staff in a fundamental reimagination of the lunch and recess experience. Trained culinary graduates partner with cafeteria staff to feed kids real food, and fitness coaches encourage schools to let kids play. In doing so, we shift the culture of a school.

WITS started in 2005, in a classroom at the Ella Baker School (NYC PS 225). In New York City, in partnership with the Department of Education, our programs, toolkits, and trainings now reach 40,000 students in 75 public schools every single day. We have reached a total of 100,000 students since 2005. We are continuing to expand our national footprint, helping schools across the country become healthier places for students to learn and grow.
